Instagram is an incredible social media platform with over 1 billion daily active users and has recently become incredibly popular for microblogging, where users share longer stories and thoughts in their captions. However, for some unknown reason, Instagram still makes it hard to write clean, visually appealing captions since you can’t add line breaks.
What many users have resorted to doing is adding dots, lines, emojis and other special characters to break up the paragraphs in their Instagram posts. But ultimately this technique is still clunky and hard to read.
In this post, I’ll show you a variety of techniques to add line breaks to Instagram, so you can see your options and choose the best one from there.
1. Instagram line break websites
Another easy way to make Instagram line breaks is to a website where you paste in your Instagram bio or caption and it will generate a space-free version for you to copy and paste back to Instagram. There are quite a few of these websites, but my favorites are:

Each website’s process is different, but for the most of them, you copy and paste your caption or bio into the box, then hit the button that converts your text to line breaks and copies it for you so you can easily paste it back into Instagram.
2. Instagram line break apps
If you prefer not to use a keyboard shortcut or open up a web browser to add your captions, then there are line break apps that make breaking up your text a breeze! Here are a few that accomplish this purpose:
The app interfaces are fairly straightforward, but the free versions are ridden with ads so the user-experience isn’t great. You can upgrade to the paid versions of these apps so that you can use them without annoying ads.
Many of the Instagram scheduling apps have line breaks and spaces as one of their features. All you have to do is write your post with line breaks in the scheduling app and schedule or post from there. And voila! Instant line breaks! Here are some of our favorite scheduling apps for this:
3. Add Instagram spaces directly
To add line breaks to your Instagram captions, bio and posts, an easy way to do this is to create a keyboard shortcut so that you can easily add spaces while you are typing your caption. All you have to do is copy and paste the following characters (characters between the brackets only) and add them to your caption or bio.

Make sure that you remove any excess spaces in the last sentence, word or punctuation mark before you want the line break.
Another handy trick is to save this line break shortcut to your phone, so that you don’t have to constantly return to this page or wherever you’ve saved it to copy and paste. To do this on iOS, go to General > Keyboard > Text Replacement and save these spaces (minus the brackets) as a keyboard shortcut. Use a shortcode like “igspace”, so that any time you type that shortcut, your phone will replace it with this text.
Don’t Leave Hanging Spaces
It’s very important that no matter what of the three methods you use to not leave hanging spaces at the end of your sentances or paragraphs. Doing so will cause Instagram to smush the two paragraphs together and ignore the space all together.
So before you hit post, just make sure to check the end of each sentence to make sure there aren’t any extra spaces at the end.
